IEH Laboratories, a Leader in Food Safety, is now accepting applications for a PhD Physicist (experienced in optics and spectroscopy) at its facility in Seattle, WA.

The duties of this position include developing optical/spectroscopy based instruments for application to food testing at very target low levels, including fluorescence; UV, visible, and NIR spectroscopy; and luminescence applications. The position also involves supporting and improving existing optical based instruments; ongoing calibration development and related support for current and new spectral testing devices; and staying alert for emerging technologies and methodologies to streamline and robustify test and laboratory operations.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

• A PhD in Physics, with experimental focus, optics, or equivalent with strong optics input (required)
• Proficiency with data mining on spectroscopy datasets
• Proficiency with chemometrics (i.e., calibration development)
• Proficiency with MATLAB, python or equivalent
• Proficiency with spectroscopic measurement systems
• Proficiency with multivariate statistics
• Proficiency with design and running robust trials subject to multiple influences, etc.
• Familiarity with electronics and software, as well as MS Office Suite (or equivalent)

The pay for this position is $78,000 – $110,000 annually (DOE). This is a full-time position eligible for the following benefits after a brief waiting period: medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance, 401(k), health and dependent care FSA plans, employee assistance program, 15 days of paid time off per year for sick leave and/or vacation, 3 days paid bereavement leave, and 6 paid holidays per year.

The laboratory operates weekends, so candidates must be willing to work occasional weekends.
