Reclaimed Water
Wastewater is generated by businesses, industries, homes and storm runoff. With proper treatment, wastewater can safely be discharged into creeks, streams, lakes and marine waters or used for irrigation and industrial uses. The level of treatment for wastewater is dictated by regulatory guidelines and permits, which are based upon the quality of the receiving waters. IEH has been intimately involved in source tracking and TMDL studies which assist POTWs in effectively balancing treatment and preserving the environment. Reclaimed water for industrial uses may have other unique treatment requirements dependent on its intended use. Specialized testing may help demonstrate safety for the intended use.
