Fertilizer Samples for Nitrogen Isotope Analysis
Collect samples in clean, preferably new, small glass containers with secure, preferably screw top, closure. Any size between 10 and 100 ml (Approximately .5 to 4 ounces) is acceptable.

Depending on the type of fertilizer and how homogenous the material in a given "Lot" is likely to be, better data may result from multiple rather than single samples. Recognizing this IEH provides a discounted rate (See below) when multiple samples per "Lot" are submitted.

Carefully close all sample containers and wrap in sufficient packaging to protect from rough handling commonly encountered in commercial shipping systems.

Fill out the appropriate customs form (See example below). Note especially the address:

In the description area on the customs form include the following statements:

  1. Fertilizer Sample for Laboratory Testing
  2. No Commercial Value
  3. Samples will be destroyed during analysis

Properly packaged with the customs form filled out as noted the samples should arrive at our lab without problems.

Sample analysis will be completed and results issued within 5 working days of arrival at the laboratory.

Nitrogen Isotope analysis is $95 (U.S.) per sample for a single sample.

Potential inconsistency due to very small samples of non homogenous materials may, in many cases, make multiple samples desirable. Recognizing this IEH offers analysis of four (4) replicate samples from one "Lot" for $295 (U.S.). If choosing this option please clearly mark each individual container of replicate samples with an identifier indicating they are part of a replicate set.
