LEASA brand sprouts recalled due to Salmonella

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., announced a voluntary recall of all LEASA brand sprouts because the Living Alfalfa Sprout product was found to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  The recalled sprouts were distributed in Winn-Dixie stores, including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, and include:

LEASA Broccoli Sprouts                 4 oz. packages             UPC code 7546555636

LEASA Alfalfa Sprouts                   6 oz. packages             UPC code 7546555633

All the recalled LEASA sprouts were sold between Jan. 7, 2012, and Jan. 18, 2012, and have expirations dates between February 1 and March 15, 2012.

Winn Dixie is advising consumers in possession of any of the recalled items to immediately discard the product.  To receive the refund, consumers may present proof of purchase through a receipt or the product packaging label.  Consumers with questions about the recalled products may contact the Winn-Dixie Guest Service Center toll free at 1-866-946-6349.
